Woman Shaman
A new online course with Max Dashu of the Suppressed Histories Archives (July 7 to mid-Dec) Drawing on her extensive collection of images, participants are looking at ancient and modern images of medicine women, seers, oracles, and ecstatic priestesses. The course surveys both specific ethnic traditions and trans-cultural resonances around embodied prayer, incantation and sacramental dance, drums and rattles, shapeshifters, spirit journeys, ancestral and land and animal spirits. Also up for discussion are the politics of patriarchal and colonial repression of these sacred ways, cultural appropriation and revitalization.
